3.) You have to download the file with Firefox, because Internet Explorer makes it a .zip file. If you don't want to download Firefox, you have to change the extension of the file from ".zip" to ".jar".
If you downloaded the file as a ".zip" file, here is explained how to change it to a ".jar" file:
With Windows:

Watch Indian Television Channels online for free

Watch Indian Television Channels online for free
Television first came to India [named as ‘Doordarshan’ (DD) on Sept 15, 1959 as the National Television Network of India. The first telecast started on Sept 15, 1959 in New Delhi. After a gap of about 13 years, s second television station was established in Mumbai (Maharashtra) in 1972 and by 1975 there were five more television stations at Srinagar (Kashmir), Amritsar (Punjab), Calcutta (West Bengal), Madras (Tamil Nadu) and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). For many years the transmission was mainly in black & white.

In 1992, the government liberated its markets, opening them up to cable television. Five new channels belonging to the Hong Kong based STAR TV gave Indians a fresh breath of life. MTV, STAR Plus, BBC, Prime Sports and STAR Chinese Channel were the 5 channels. Zee TV was the first private owned Indian channel to broadcast over cable. A few years later CNN,Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel made its foray into India. Star expanded its bouquet introducing STAR World, STAR Sports, ESPN and STAR Gold.

And now India has about couple hundred channels. But I think the mostly viewed channels are Zee, Sony, Star channels. Most of those who live in India don't care whether they can watch the Indian Television channels online or not but for those who live outside India really strives to watch these Indian channels.
I have seen lot of people searching for "free indian channels online" or how to watch indian channels online or if I want to watch zee cinema online or zee tv online or Tamil TV watch online where to go?
So here I am trying to compile the list of sites where you can watch these channels online.
  • www.live-from-bd.com :  The site called "Live from Bangladesh". The site has list of all the famous Indian channels that you can watch online. Zee TV, Sony TV, Star One, Star Plus, Zee Cinema etc. The site doesn't require you to register. All you need is Windows Media Player 10, Real Player, VLC Media Player installed on your machine. You must be aware of Windows Media Player and Real Player. You can get VLC media player free, just google it and you will find it. Once you go to the website, you will see list of channels on the left. Click on the channel you want to see and you would see the screen with username and password information. The popup box will ask you to enter that information and you should be all set. Watch Zee Cinema Online, Watch Zee TV online, Watch Sony TV Online and enjoy.

Update on Live-From-bd.com - The site now requires  you to register. So be prepared for that
  • www.idesitv.com: This site used to require registration but they have changed their layout and now its just simple page with list of channels URLs. Click on the channel and a popup window will open up. Same list of channels are available here. Less than what you get from the previous site. Few sites have voice issue. The voice and video moves in fast forward motion makes it sound funny. For e.g. Sony TV & Star One.
  • www.djzaki.com: I don't believe this site has online channels but you can watch videos clippings from these Indian Channels. This site requires registration.
  • www.nepalisite.com/tv : This site has only 5-6 channels but the quality is good and doesn't have annoying ads. It has Zee, Sony, Sony Max, Star Plus, Aaj Tak, IBN Live, Star One. I would rank this site as 2nd after live-from-bd.com. Watch Star Plus Online.
  • www.onlinemedia.inBeware of this website. It does provide all these channels but has lot of popup ads and could have spywares. I would go to this site as a last option.
Updates On more players
  • www.cyberviewtv.com - This site has Hum TV, Apna TV (Punjabi), AJJ TV, Geo TV, DOOM TV, Star Utsav, Zee Punjabi, ETC Punjabi, Zee Marathi, Zee Gujarati and many more Indian channels online for free. I think this site has the most exclusive list of Indian channels online for free. It also doesn't have too many popup ads but the UI is little bit cluttered. It also has TV shows, Cartoon shows etc available for free.

Updates:
  •  www.indiagalaxy.com -Just got a comment from a user about this new website. IndiaGalaxy.com is another website that streams Indian TV Channels. The site is pretty neat and it has a list of channels listed on the left and the player is on the right. You can watch Telugu channels, Zee Cinema, Zee TV, Sony, SET Max, Star Plus, Star One, Zoom India, Filmy and many more indian tv channels online for free.

When to charge your Laptop Battery | Increase the Laptop battery life

When to charge your Laptop Battery | Increase the Laptop battery life
Many of the Laptop owners are actually confused in finding the exact time when your Laptop battery needs to recharge. Some says it is better let the Laptop battery to fully discharge and then recharge. Another argument is like there is no need to disconnect your Laptop battery from the power plug and the laptop battery is not at use this time as the power bypasses the battery. Any way the hardware experts saying the best time to recharge your Laptop battery is when the 80 to 90 % of battery charge discharged and only 10 to 20% charge remains.

The better ways to charge your Laptop battery
Now a days we are using lithium-ion batteries for Laptops and it is having a rapid-charging option. It is important to note that when we start usingthe Laptop for the first time it is advised to charge the battery for a long time. To know the exact time period better refer the Laptop user manual. Never operate your Laptop at high as well as lower temperature. The best temperature for Laptop battery is room temperature. You should not allow battery charge reduces to less than 10 percent of full charge.
It is better remove the Laptop battery from the Laptop if you are not going to use the Laptop for a long time. Another important point we need to remember is never short circuit terminal to discharge battery charge.

Add a Categories Section to a Blogger Blog

Add a Categories Section to a Blogger Blog
Blogspot blogs at Blogger.com have no categories only labels. This tutorial will show you how to manually create categories from your existing labels. While this is not an ideal solution it will mean that you can display a logical grouping of your most popular articles under the one heading. This article is aimed at new bloggers and beginner bloggers although it is suitable for all Blogger Blogspot bloggers. No changes to the template are required to add these categories to your Blogger Blogspot blog.

Create Categories from Labels
One easy way to create a categories section is to simply rename the title of the labels widget as categories.
To add a categories section to your Blogger Blogspot blog follow these simple steps:
 1. Decide how you want to group your labels and what headings are your most popular

2. For the first category navigate to the individual page of the label you wish to use by clicking on the label in your sidebar. Copy the URL address of this page from the address bar in your browser (right click and select copy). For example the URL address of the label of Blogger Tutorials on this site is:

http://freefixit.blogspot.com/search/label/Blogger%20Tips
3. Navigate to Layout > Page Elements

4. Click Add a Gadget in the sidebar and select Links List

5. In the Configure Link List dialog box that appears paste the link to your label into the New Site URL box

6. Enter the name of your label or some alternative text if you wish into the New Site Name text box.

7. Enter Categories as the title

8. Choose between sort alphabetically, reverse alphabetically or don't sort

9. Click on Add Link to add the link to your new categories list

10. Click on Save

11. For every label you wish to put into the Categories Section copy the link and add it to the Configure Links List. By the end you will end up with two or more categories in your list.

Limit the Number of Posts Displayed in the Categories Section
To put a limitation on the number of posts to display in the new categories section you will need to adjust the URL's of each label as follows:

From:
http://yoursite.blogspot.com/search/label/CategoryName
To:
http://yoursite.blogspot.com/search/label/CategoryName?max-results=max number of posts to display
So for the category Blogger Tutorials on this site for example I would enter the following to have only 25 posts displayed:
http://blogknowhow.blogspot.com/search/label/blogger%20Tutorials?max-results=25
This tutorial has shown you how to add a categories section to the sidebar of your Blogger Blogspot Blog using the Link List widget.

Cell phone tips and shortcuts

Cell phone tips and shortcuts
1)---- Do u know how to use the edit button (abc or pencil button)?Heres how… in the inbox for example; u wanna delete multiple sms, simply hold the edit button, scroll down, and then, press c to delete the marked sms. The edit button can also b used to copy and past text in sms, simply hold it and scroll across, choose copy. pretty good for placing song names in ngages

2)----TO NGAGE USERS; Did u know u can install .sis files simply using the cable given? Juz plug it in, place the .sis file anywhere on e: (the mmc), not in any folders, root of e:, disconnect, then look for it in manager. Tip 3: Save on battery and system memory being used by regulary checking the task manager which can be accessed by holding down the menu button!!

3)-----: Avoid restarting the phone, or repeatedly turning it on and off. This helps increase battery life.
Tip 4: If you would like to avoid being “blue jacked”, keep bluetooth turned off, or set your phone’s visibility to hidden.

4)------Save memory when installing apps, by installing over bluetooth. This can be done using the nokia phone suite and a bluetooth serial connection. Only works with .SIS files, so java still has to be sent to the phone, but will save space when using .SIS files.

5)-----Save memory when installing apps, by installing over bluetooth. This can be done using the nokia phone suite and a bluetooth serial connection. Only works with .SIS files, so java still has to be sent to the phone, but will save space when using .SIS files.

6)-----BlueJacking
First up, you need to know what Bluetooth is. There are lots of types of modern devices that incorporate Bluetooth as one of their many features. PDAs, mobile phones and laptops are a few of these modern devices. Bluetooth means that Bluetooth enabled devices can send things like phonebook/address book contacts, pictures & notes to other Bluetooth enabled devices wirelessly over a range of about 10 metres. So, we’ve got past the boring part. Now, using a phone with Bluetooth, you can create a phonebook contact and write a message, eg. ‘Hello, you’ve been bluejacked’, in the ‘Name’ field. Then you can search for other phones with Bluetooth and send that phonebook contact to them. On their phone, a message will popup saying “‘Hello, you’ve been bluejacked’ has just been received by Bluetooth” or something along those lines. For most ‘victims’ they will have no idea as to how the message appeared on their phone.

Delete data from my old computer so it is totally unusable if it gets into the wrong hands.

So you’ve given your old computer the last rites and now you want to wipe it’s hard drive
clean. Our first piece of advice would be to make sure that the data that you will or might
need again has been backed up to a reliable backup medium.

Once you are satisfied that your data has been backed up safely. You can choose from a
number of commercial applications that will safely delete all your data to irretrievable state.
One such application which we would recommend would be Active Kill Disk Professional.

Available at: http://www.killdisk.com/ (in fact, this piece of software meets the stringent
standards set by the United States Department of Defense for secure deletion of data).
Once this application had been run on your old drive – there is no going back and you can rest
assured that even if your old hard drive does get into the hands of the most determined
fraudster, the data on it will be totally unreadable.

Create Private folder in networked computer without resetting file permissions etc.
You can create shared folders on your computer and then hide them.

When users view the computer from My Network Places or Network Neighbourhood ,
they see all the shared resources. They don’t however see the shared folders that are hidden.
The person who created the folder is the only person who knows it exists. Here is a neat trick to create a hidden folder on your computer that other users of the network cannot see.

Create a folder. Let’s call it something like PrivateFolder. Locate it on the C:\ drive. Now
share it on the network. To make it invisible to all users, but yourself, simply add a “$”
dollar sign to the end of it. For example, C:\PrivateFolder$. When you want to view this
folder from another computer in your office. Simply go to Start -> Run and enter
\\computername\privatefolder$ and, hey presto, your very own private folder will appear.

CLICKING * .AVI FILES ON EXPLORER CAUSING 100% CPU USAGE.!!

CLICKING * .AVI FILES ON EXPLORER CAUSING 100% CPU USAGE.!!
Well windows seem to have a REALLY big problem when it comes to reading AVI

files. It seems that when you click on an AVI file in explorer, it'll try to read the

entire AVI file to determine the width, height, etc. of the AVI file (this is displayed in
the Properties window). Now the problem with Windows is that if you have a
broken/not fully downloaded AVI file that doesnt contain this info, Windows will
scan the entire AVI file trying to figure out all these properties which in the process

will probably cause 100% CPU usage and heavy memory usage. To solve this

problem all you have to do is the following:

1. Open up regedit

2. Goto

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler

3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489- 5FE6850DC73E}"

Voila! Please not that this will no longer provide you with the windows properties

displaying the AVI file information such as width, height, bitrate etc. But its a small

price to pay for saving you resources.

NOTE: Please use caution when using regedit. Improper usage may cause windows
to behave imcorrectly. Also, I cannot be held resposible. Backup your registry first.

DISPLAY MESSAGE ON STARTUP.

Modify the key legalnoticetext with what you want the window to say. Restart

What is a scan engine?

What is a scan engine?
A virus-scanning engine is the program that does the actual work of scanning and detecting viruses,

while signature files are the “fingerprints” used by scan engines to identify viruses. New versions of a

scan engine are released for a number of reasons. New types of viruses or other malicious code, such as
spyware, may not be detected by the old engine. Updated scan engines also have enhanced scanning

performance and detection rates. Some vendors provide updates for both the scan engine and signature

files in a single file, while others provide them in separate files.

to ask me about Run Commands
Well, First off nearly all of the Run Commands Correspond to a particular Control Panel Item or a Utility, Tool or Task that can be accessed through Windows.    There are, however, tools and utilities that I bet you never knew you had that can be accessed through the Run feature.   The main reason most people don't use the Run feature is because they don't know the Commands.  So, to solve that problem, I decided to put together the following listing, which lists 99 Run Commands and what they correspond too...

make mp3 files smaller without losing quality

make mp3 files smaller without losing quality
If you don't already have a copy of MusicMatch Jukebox, download one from musicmatch.com. The "Plus" version has more features and burns CDs faster, but the free version works just fine for converting files

1. Install music match box and then restart your computer if it asks
2. open music matchbox and click file convert files
3. in the bottom right hand corner called 'destination type' change it to mp3 pro.
4.you can edit the bitrate but the higher the bitrate the bigger the size
5. choose the songs you want to convert and click start

***if you want to try something different repeat step one and 2 and instead of making the destintion type mp3 pro make it 'mp3pro vbr'

again the lower the setting the smaller the size.

Recover MOST of scratched CD data discs

Recover MOST of scratched CD data discs
Here we cover some
special thecniques of how to create a full working CD from the scratched one.
First some tools will be needed:

1. Alcohol 120%
2. UltraISO
3. Windows XP/2000 (not tested on 95/98/me)
3. Small piece of cotton
4. Dry cleaner paper
5. Finally, oil for cooking.

First step - preparing the CD
Get the cotton and drop some water, start cleaning vertically the surface of CD.
Do it 3 times and dry the water with a piece of dry cleaner paper. With a new piece
of cotton, drop some oil for cooking and start to wet the surface like you are
washing the CD with the oil. Dry carefully now. Some particles of oil will stay on the
microsurface of the scrath. It's okay. Seems the oil helps the laser of the CD/DVD driver
to read the surface again. Sure this will work with small unreadable scratchs - some hard
scratchs loose parts of the surface of the CD where we have data and it's lost forever.
But if it is loosed try anyway. Whith this tip 80% of the small scratched CD's coud be recovered.

Second Step - testing the CD
With Alcohol 120% make an ISO - image making wizard - and lets see if the app can
read the loosed surface. In my case Alcohol 120% had recovered 60% of the data.
This is not enough. Have tryed other appz, they do not recover all the data. But the
CD/DVD driver laser CAN recover all data in this case. the data is still there, what we do?
third step - making the new CD
With the main copy system of windows explorer you can do it. Just create one folder
with the same name of the CD label for future burn reference, and copy the CD content
to the folder. When the CD copy process find the scratch, in majority of the cases, it's
slow down the reading and will recover ALL loosed data.If not, it just tell you there's
an unreadable sector. In this case your CD is lost. But it's not my case, finally
windows explorer got all the data from the scratch and made a copy in the folder.
with the ultraISO, wrote the original CD label, drop the content of the folder and
save as Iso. You can Test the new CD just mounting the iso in the Alcohol 120%. In my
case i did ISO of the two discs from MAX PAYNE 2 and tested installing from the mounted
ISO. Works like a charm. I got the 4 mb lost again. So, I have burned the CD and now i
have a working copy from the scratched one.

Sounds too bizzarre, but works. Course you can jump the cleaning process and try to copy
the content with Windows explorer. But in my case did not work without oil...

the DVD here. Unlike the video area, you only have a window that shows the list of

files. With “Recode Main Movie to DVD”, you can import and recode the main movie of

a personal, non-copy-protected DVD to another DVD, keeping the video quality intact.

Here too, you can remove unwanted subtitles and audio tracks, and also trim the video.

Remember The Song

Remember The Song
One of the smarter things about Winamp is that it remembers which playlist and song

you were playing when you quit, so the next time you start, all you have to do is push

play to resume your playlist where you left it. To duplicate this in WMP, all you need to

do is ensure that “Save file and URL history in the player” under Tools > Options >

Privacy (right-click on the title bar to get to the main menu) is checked.

Rate While You Listen

Rate While You Listen
To rate songs that are currently playing in Windows Media Player, use [Ctrl] +

[Windows] + [0—5], depending on what you want to rate it]. This nifty little feature

works even when WMP isn’t the active window, so you don’t need to babysit the player

if you want to rate

your tracks.

Use The Global Hotkeys

Use The Global Hotkeys
For some reason, this feature has been disabled by default, but it’s extremely useful if

you’re listening to music while working on another program and don’t want to bother

yourself switching to Winamp to change the song you’re hearing. Go to Options >

Preferences (or [Ctrl] + [P]) > Global Hotkeys and check Enable. All the hotkeys are

simple [Ctrl] + [Alt] shortcuts that work even when Winamp isn’t in focus. You can

even add your own and customise what exists—which you might need to because

volume controls sometimes don’t register with Windows XP.

Disable Windows Key Shortcuts

Disable Windows Key Shortcuts

If (for whatever reason) you want to prevent users from using shortcuts like [Windows]

+ [E] and so on, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows

Components > Windows Explorer and enable the “Turn off Windows + X hotkeys”

setting.

No More System Tray

No More System Tray
You’ll find this setting under User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start

Menu and Taskbar. Double-click “Hide the Notification Area” and choose Enabled.

When you log on next, you’ll only see the system clock in the tray, which you can also

remove by right-clicking on the Taskbar, selecting Properties and un-checking “Show

the Clock”.

Select Control Panel Applets

Select Control Panel Applets
You can choose to show only a given set of Control Panel applets to users. The option

is under User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel. On the righthand

side, you will see “Show only specified Control Panel applets”. You’ll need to

know the exact names of the Control Panel applets to use this, though. For example,

appwiz.cpl corresponds to Add/Remove Programs and so on.

Magic With Music

Magic With Music
If you’re having one of those days when you need to hear only slow, depressing songs,

or if you’re having a party and don’t want any of the aforementioned songs getting in

your way, use the MusicMagic plugin that comes bundled with Winamp. It analyses

your music and relates tracks according to their “acoustic fingerprint”, so similarsounding

tracks fall under the same playlist. You can access it from the Media Library

(it’s the second entry from the bottom) and change its settings under Options >

Preferences > Media Library > Predixis MusicMagic.

Top 10 Oldest Domain Names on The Internet

Top 10 Oldest Domain Names on The Internet
The domain name is the Internet address that is used to uniquely identify a computer or a website connected to the Internet. These names appear as a component of a Web site's URL. Here is the list of the first 10 domain names ever registered on the Internet.

1. SYMBOLICS.COM (registered on15-Mar-1985)

2. BBN.COM (registered on 24-Apr-1985)

3. THINK.COM (registered on 24-May-1985)

4. MCC.COM (registered on 11-Jul-1985)

5. DEC.COM (registered on 30-Sep-1985)

6. NORTHROP.COM (registered on 07-Nov-1985)

7. XEROX.COM (registered on 09-Jan-1986)

8. SRI.COM (registered on 17-Jan-1986)

9. HP.COM (registered on 03-Mar-1986)

10. BELLCORE.COM (registered on 05-Mar-1986)

It's surprising to see the first domains were registered way back in 1985. I would have thought that they came into being no early than 1990 because Tim Burnes Lee - the father of the World Wide Web - invented the web only in early 1990s. That means the first WWW addresses were registers even before the WWW was invented!

ROM (READ ONLY MEMORY)

ROM (READ ONLY MEMORY)

As discussed in my early post on different types of memories here is about ROM READ ONLY MEMORY. it is also known as NON-VOLATILE MEMORY which simply means the data written in ROM is permanently written and cant be even washed away when the power is switched off. It is primarily used to store the programs used most frequently by the computer and various softwares of an OPERATING SYSTEM.

Usually the program and files stored in the ROM deals with interaction with hardware of the computer one such program is the BIOS( BASIC INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICE). It is being used by the computer every time the computer is started. BOOTSTRAP LOADER is also located in this memory only.

Know as the memory is constantly evolved so if we cant alter or change the information in ROM than new memory cant be employed to use to overcome this program various types of ROM are there they can be summarized as:-

1.) MASKED ROM:-
It is the permanent ROM which is prepared by masking of sheets. Since it uses permanent storing technique so the data written in it once cant be alter later. Now a days it has completely been remove from the market and has got little use in machines which have to perform specific operation only.

2.) PROGRAMMABLE/ERASABLE ROM:-
This is a ROM in which the data can be re-programmed again and again because the information is stored in it in a semi-permanent way and it is prepared by placing specific fuses at points. Special techniques are used to change them and thus it can be re-program by the programmer.

3.) ELECTRICAL PROGRAMMABLE ROM:-
IT is almost same as that of above it differs only in the way that electric current is being used to alter the information.

4.) FLASH LIGHT TECHNIQUES:-
It is one the most recent and modern invention in which the laser beam is being focussed for a fraction of second on the chip in which the data has to been altered and it intensity and frequency is being controlled according to the desired use. It is faster and easier method but it is in developing phase and at present is costlier technique.

CACHE (THE FASTEST MEMORY)

CACHE (THE FASTEST MEMORY)

As discussed in my earlier post on DIFFERENT MEMORIES OF COMPUTER, The CACHE is in a main memory of the computer and the computer has got direct access to it. In fact CACHE is one of the fastest and costliest memory of the computer. The main work of the CACHE is to take the data from the memory to the registers were the arithmatic and logical processing is done on it.

Although it is one of the fastest memory still it"s size is smaller, now a days computer has got 512kb of CACHE.now there are two important operations related to cache and that CACHE HIT and CACHE MISS. the CACHE stores the information which is most frequently used by computer and the user. now when we need an information or computer has to perform an operation it looks in the CACHE now if it has already got the desired information than the computer will almost instantly perform the operation and this is known as CACHE HIT. But if it doesn"t have the desired information than it have to be transferred to REGISTERS through CACHE and that takes some time and that is known as cache miss. Now depending on the location and there size the CACHE can be divided in two categories and they are:-

1.) INTERNAL CACHE:- this type of cache has recently been introduced in the computer and its size is only about 64kb only, but already with its introduction the computer speed has already increased by 1000 times. Now this INTERNAL CACHE is located on the same chip as the MICROPROCESSOR.

2.) EXTERNAL CACHE:- This is the main cache of the computer which is in use since long time and has got an size of about 512kb. this CACHE is responsible for taking the data from the RAM to REGISTERS. It is located between the RAM and PROCESSOR(REGISTERS).

RAM ( RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY)

RAM ( RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY)

RAM ( RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY) as discussed in my earlier post on DIFFERENT MEMORIES OF COMPUTER it is an internal memory or main memory. It is also known as VOLATILE MEMORY. VOLATILE here simply means that the data stored in this memory is not permanent and as the power is switched off its data is also removed or washed away.now RAM can also be termed as READ AND WRITE MEMORY because simply we can read as well as write in this memory.RAM is used in the execution of different programs and since every program needs a particular amount of memory. Now for the fast working of computer it is required to have at least 512kb of memory and its size varies between 128KB to 1GB. In this memory the data is accessed randomly not sequentially and thats why it is termed as RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY. Now further this memory can simply be classified as

1.) STATIC RAM:-
this ram is made up of a device called flip-flop. FLIP-FLOP are the devices which can store the data. for eg:- A 1byte of flip-flop can store 8 bits of data. In flip-flop data is stored as voltage. But it has got limitation that only few number of flip flops can be stored on a chip and thats why its density is reduced and thats why they are not in much demand in market.

2.) DYNAMIC RAM:-
This type of RAM uses a technique of MOS-TRANSISTOR GATES. the greatest advantage of this technique is that comparatively larger number of gates can be stored. Now this memory is made up of a device known as CAPACITOR. it stores the bit as a charge. Now its disadvantage is that capacitor has got a property that its charge is being continuously lost with time now that can result in data loss. now to overcome this problem a refreshing circuit is attached along with this. Refreshing circuit simply keeps on transforming the information till it is being used. when the use gets finished or the application is turned off it stops and thus this problem is also solved.
