Charge non-rechargeable batteries

ReZAP Battery Engineer can charge non-rechargeable batteries

This is exactly what the ReZap Battery Engineer is designed to do. Not only can it charge both regular and rechargeable batteries up to ten times, but it can charge four cells of varying sizes at the same time. In case you are wondering, it is capable of doing AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, and 9-volt kinds.
This is a charger that uses intelligent microprocessors and software to regulate the charging process for these batteries. It has a “correct charging algorithm” that can handle the custom recharge of each individual battery type. The user does not have to manually set the ReZap for any type of battery put in it. In other words, just put it in, and let it charge while you forget about it.
The ReZap Battery Engineer is planning on making its foray into North American sales on May 2010. The suggested retail price is about $59.95.

CREATE THUMBNAILS FOR A VIDEO

CREATE THUMBNAILS FOR A VIDEO
Usually when you want to share a video, people often ask for screenshots. Sometimes it is better to give several small thumbnails rather than just one big screenshot. This simple tutorial will tell you how to do such thing with ease.

First, you will need the Media Player Classic (MPC). It is a free software that you can get from sourceforge. If you are using Windows XP then you just have to download it here.

Now you already have the MPC, follow these instruction:

Sharing Internet Connection using WiFi (Windows XP)

Sharing Internet Connection using WiFi (Windows XP)
Here is the situation, you have two (or more) laptops (or PC) with WiFi capabilities. You don't have any router, switch, hub, or whatsoever. Just a single Internet port enough for one of your computer. Don't be worry, because you still can share the Internet connection by using ad-hoc network.

First, you need to pick one of those computers as a "server". Connect it to the Internet using the usual way. Next, open Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections. Open the Wireless Connection Properties. Change tab to Wireless Networks then click Add... button. Under theAssociation tab, input your Network Name as you like. Clear the The key is provided for me automatically check box and select the This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network check box. Fill in the Network Key along with the confirmation with a 13-digit password and then press OK. Press OK once again to close the dialog box. Now you have finished with the first computer.

THE INTERNET TIME MACHINE

THE INTERNET TIME MACHINE
Remember Google and Yahoo from the old time? You didn't think that I made those screen capture from long time ago, did you? Well, in fact I didn't. Going back in time is surely not possible, at least not for now. Luckily, a website called Internet Archive WayBack Machine allows us to blast to the past and surfing through the Internet in the past. The idea is simple, it crawls web pages and puts them into archive. Obviously, it's not possible to archive every single web site running out there, but their attempt is quite incredible. Up until now, they claimed to have around 85 billion web pages archived from 1996.

SCREEN SHOT OF YAHOO TIME MACHINE
You could access the WayBack Machine directly from the website or use the button for browser by drag-and-drop this link: to your browser toolbar. Enjoy the past.

Desktop USB fans are uber cute

Since summer is marching towards us with each second that ticks by, why not make the relevant preparations if the place you stay at happens to suffer from sweltering heat every year? The Desktop USB fans not only look cute, but they ought to be able to help as well, being fully powered by your computer's USB port when plugged in with an On/Off switch. Increase your RAM and so system speed

Increase your RAM and so system speed
1). Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.

2). Press
CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.

3). Now switch to Word and simply minimize it. (Don't use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar).

4). Now go back to the Windows Task Manager and see where WINWORD.EXE is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find Word. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.

5). Minimize each application that you are currently not working on by clicking on the Minimize button & you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. Depending upon the number and type of applications you use together, the difference can be as much as 50 percent of extra RAM.
In any multitasking system, minimizing an application means that it won't be utilized by the user right now. Therefore, the OS automatically makes the application use virtual memory & keeps bare minimum amounts of the code in physical RAM.

How to Troubleshoot and Fix USB Errors

How to Troubleshoot and Fix USB Errors
If you’ve ever plugged in a USB device into your PC, and received an error- then read this:

To rule out issues with the USB device itself, try plugging it into
another computer– if you still get errors, then the device is most
likely the problem.
If the USB device works on another computer, then the problem is with
the configuration of the computer where the USB device didn’t work.
Follow these steps below to troubleshoot:
1) If you’re using a USB cable with your device, check the cable to
make sure it matches the speed of the device. Use USB 2.0 cables with
USB 2.0 devices and USB 1.1 cables with USB 1.1 devices. Swap cables
and check the device, if this does not work, proceed to Step 2.
2) Next, open Device Manager and look under the heading for USB Serial
Bus Controllers. If there is a device with a yellow exclamation mark
next to it such as USB Mass Storage Device. Double-click on the entry
and check the Device Status. If the status shows something like:

Use Remote Desktop while on a Dynamic IP Address

Use Remote Desktop while on a Dynamic IP Address
There are many services out there that let you access your computer from anywhere in the world. There is GotomyPC, and LogMeIn just to name a couple.
There is however a free workaround for this- all you need is a free No-IP.com account, and the Remote Desktop application on your Windows PC.
The problem is, most users have a Dynamic IP address with their ISPs- which means it’s always changing and not permanent. This causes problems because you won’t always know what your IP address is in order to connect to your machine over Remote Desktop.
If you had a Static IP, it would be much easier since the number is permanent and never changes.
Here’s the work around:

How to Reset RAM memory

How to Reset RAM memory

A lot of times, when we have multiple programs running at once, we may notice our system getting a bit sluggish. That is because every application that is running is using up a certain amount of RAM (random access memory)- some more than others. When an application is closed, it releases the memory it was using, making it available for other tasks. This doesn’t always happen though.
I will show you how to create an easy shortcut to reset your Ram when needed, and recover some of that performance power without needing a restart.
Follow these easy steps:
1. Right-click on your desktop and select New > Shortcut.

2. Copy and paste the following into the box:  %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

3. Click Next, name it ‘Clear Memory’, and click Finish
Now you can double-click that shortcut whenever you need to run the command.

Toe Mouse For Upper Body Handicaps

Toe Mouse For Upper Body Handicaps

The Toe Mouse may seem ridiculous for the general public, but it’s not designed for the average person.  Instead, this was created with those in mind that have a disability to do with their upper limbs.  Instead of a mouse that requires you to move your hands, they could have this on the floor and move their mouse around all with the use of a couple of toes.  Now, I’m not sure how they’ll get past the keyboard issue, but it’s a start at the very least.
Of course if those of you with monkey toes want to be able to utilize the Flip Flop Mouse, I suppose that’s not all bad either. To work the mouse you just move it around like normal and there are sensors below the big toe and the second that help with the right and left clicks. This was designed by Liu Yi, so it’s not exactly something you’ll find at your local electronics store.  Hopefully it’s something that will soon be able to be used by the handicapped.

Western Digital VelociRaptor hard drive

Western Digital VelociRaptor hard drive

Western Digital is back with a brand new hard drive known as the WD VelociRaptor, where it will be available in 450GB and 600GB capacities. These are the next generation of its 10,000 RPM SATA family of hard drives, where it was specially designed to cater fro blade servers, high-performance PCs, Mac computers, professional workstations, in addition to 1U and 2U rack servers – basically any situation that calls for a balance of high performance and capacity. It also holds the distinction of being the only 10,000 RPM SATA hard drive on the market, and has been a firm favorite in the past amongst enthusiast and enterprise groups. Nice to know this latest iteration of the VelociRaptor brand now features double the capacity and up to 15% performance increase.
The WD VelociRaptor hard drive comes with enterprise-class mechanics that provide round the clock durability under high-performance demands, where up to 600GB of data can be crammed into a 2.5″ enterprise form factor. Apart from that, you can pick up the WD VelociRaptor drive in the IcePack enclosure, which is essentially a 3.5″ mounting frame that comes complete with a built-in heat sink. This factory customization will be able to fit the drive into a standard 3.5″ system bay while keeping it extra cool even when it is installed in a high-performance desktop chassis and 3.5″ hard drive form factor enterprise chassis.
Among the features that are found on the new WD VelociRaptor hard drives include :-
  • Killer speed – SATA 6 Gb/s interface and 32 MB cache enhance the next generation 10,000 RPM WD VelociRaptor making it up to 15% faster than the award-winning previous generation.
  • Monstrous capacity – WD VelociRaptor SATA drives are available in capacities up to 600 GB, double the capacity of the previous generation.
  • Rock-solid reliability – Designed and manufactured to mission-critical enterprise-class standards to provide enterprise reliability in high duty cycle environments. With 1.4 million hours MTBF, these drives have the highest available reliability rating on a high capacity SATA drive.
  • Ultra-cool operation – Consumes no more power than the previous generation WD VelociRaptor while offering double the capacity and higher performance.
  • IcePack mounting frame – The 2.5-inch WD VelociRaptor is enclosed in a backplane-ready 3.5-inch enterprise-class mounting frame with a built-in heat sink that keeps this powerful little drive extra cool when installed in high-performance desktop chassis.
  • Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) – Optimizes operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis.
  • NoTouch ramp load technology – The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.
  • Environmentally conscious – In addition to being ROHS compliant, this generation of WD VelociRaptor is also a halogen-free design.
Expect the WD VelociRaptor (model WD4500HLHX and WD6000HLHX to retail for $299 for the 450GB model, while the 600GB model is going for $329.

Kaspersky PURE - Complete Protection For Your Digital Life.
A recent security software trend seems to be to offer multiple editions of a program that differ in functionality in price. If you look at companies like Microsoft, Symantec or Kaspersky you notice that they all offer different editions of their programs.Kaspersky Pure Boxshot
Kaspersky Pure Main Dashboard
Security software in particular is offering two, three or sometimes even more different versions of their products to their customers. There is usually a basic edition, an advanced edition and a complete edition.
Kaspersky Internet Security was until recently the flagship product of Kaspersky with Kaspersky Antivirus being the basic software program. Kaspersky now has released Kaspersky Pure which adds features on top of the Internet security product.
Kaspersky Pure has the following additional features (or improves already existing ones):
  • Identity Protection
  • Advanced Parental Control and monitoring of user’s Internet access, pc and application use and communications
  • PC tune-up
  • Password Manager can create, encrypt and store logins, auto-complete forms and has an inbuilt virtual keyboard
  • File Shredder uses multi-pass technology to make deleted data unrestorable, even with sophisticated software
  • Data Backup & Restore assures your data’s integrity. Set schedules, restore points and select backup media
  • Data Encrypt maximizes security. Create, store and transfer data in password-protected, encrypted containers
  • Single-point protection management for other computers in home network

Many of the tools that are added to security applications like Kaspersky Pure are also available as free third party applications. Including those features on the other hand can be beneficial for users who have not heard of those before. It could also be interesting from a security point of view considering that all the tools are created by the same developer and not multiple ones.
Computer users who want to try out Kaspersky Pure can download a 30-day trial version at the official Kaspersky website. Additional information about the security software are provided on the Pure profile
