DISABLE UNNECESSARY SERVICES MAKE COMPUTER FAST
Because Windows XP has to be all things to all people it has many services running that take up system resources that you will never need. Below is a list of services that can be disabled on most machines.
1.Alerter
2.Clipbook
3.Computer Browser
4.Distributed Link Tracking Client
5.Fast User Switching
6.Help and Support - (If you use Windows Help and Support leave this enabled)
7.Human Interface Access Devices
8.Indexing Service
9.IPSEC Services
10.Messenger
11.Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (disabled for extra security)
12.Portable Media Serial Number
13.Remote Desktop Help Session Manager (disabled for extra security)
14.Remote Procedure Call Locator
15.Remote Registry (disabled for extra security)
16.Remote Registry Service
17.Secondary Logon
18.Routing & Remote Access (disabled for extra security)
19.Server
20.SSDP Discovery Service - (Unplug n' Pray will disable this)
21.Telnet
22.TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
23.Upload Manager
24.Universal Plug and Play Device Host
25.Windows Time
26.Wireless Zero Configuration (Do not disable if you use a wireless network)
27.Workstation
To disable these services:
Go to Start and then Run and type "services.msc"
Doubleclick on the service you want to change
Change the startup type to 'Disable"
